  • Fish Fillet is the hero of this recipe; we are using haddock fillets for this air fried fish recipe. Other than this you can also use cod fillets or any other fish of your choice. I have cut the fish fillets into strips but you can leave them in large pieces as well to make breading process easy.
  • Garlic paste is an ingredient that can enhance the flavor game of any dish and when used as base of marinade it actually adds a strong flavor that beautifully compliments this air fryer fish and chips recipe. You can also use ginger-garlic powder instead for this purpose.
  • Salt and Black Pepper is added which are the basic seasonings to enhance the flavor of fish dishes.
  • Flour and Corn-flour is added while I make the marinade which will give a nice crispy exterior texture and crunch to the fish.
  • Eggs are not only used in the breading process but also used as a binding ingredient in marinade as well.
  • Additional herbs and spices (optional) like carom seeds and dried fenugreek leaves are used to transform this simple recipe into flavorful and aromatic dish by giving this air fryer fish and chips an earthy flavor and a lovely aroma that elevates the overall dining experience. Additionally, I am using Fish Masala as a special seasoning that will elevate the overall flavor game of this air fried fish and chips.
  • I also use soya sauce in marinade and while doing so, I try to minimize the use of salt in the marinade because of high sodium content of the soya sauce.
  • Russet Potatoes are used for making chips to be served with the fish. You can either make them in air fryer or you can also deep fry them. I prefer air frying for a healthier option. 

How to Make Air Fryer Fish and Chips

Now we have gathered all our ingredients to make this delicious air fryer fish and chips, it’s time to move forward and talk about how we can actually make this. For Recipe you can also directly Jump to the Recipe Card down below. Here is a simple 5-Step Recipe of Air Fryer Fish and Chips.

Prepare the Potatoes for Chips:

Wash and peel russet potatoes and cut them into even-sized chips to ensure they cook evenly. Then soak them in cold water for at least 30 minutes or maximum an hour. This step will help resulting in crispier chips.

Now drain all the water from fries and pat dry them with the help of a kitchen towel. You can also season them with simple salt or any seasonings of your choice. Set aside.

Preparing the Fish:

Wash the fish thoroughly under running water, then drain all the water and pat dry with paper towel.  Cut the fillet into equal size thin strips and set aside.

Prepare the Marinade:

In a large size bowl add garlic paste, soya sauce, salt, black pepper, fish masala, carom seeds, dried fenugreek leaves and egg. Mix well to make a thin consistency paste. Now add in fish strips one by on in the marinade and mix them all together so that all the fish is covered with the marinade.

Once fish is all coated in the marinade, it is time to add in flour and corn-flour in the marinade. Mix well so that all the flour is coated well over the fish strips.

Cover the dish with cling wrap and keep it in refrigerator for at least 1 to 2 hours so that all the flavors of the marinade infuse into the fish.

Prepare Breading Station and coat the Fish:

Beat two eggs in a bowl and season with any seasonings of your choice. Add breadcrumbs in another bowl and season it as well.

Now take out marinated fish from refrigerator and start breading them by first dipping each piece in egg mixture first followed by coating them with breadcrumbs one by one. You can also double coat fish strips with the breading for extra crunchy and crispy texture. Once all the fish strips are well coated with egg and bread crumbs, now it is time to air fry them.

Air Fry Fish and Chips:

Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 to 10 minutes. Place butter paper in inside basket of your air fryer and brush oil over it. Start placing fish strips in the air fryer basket in a way that there is a little space between each piece. This will help ensure hot air circulation inside the air fryer that will result even cooking.

Note: Do Not Over Crowd Your Air Fryer! Cook Them in Batches.

Spray or brush the oil over fish strips and air fry them for about 20 minutes, flipping them halfway through to ensure they are cooked equally from both the sides. Make sure fish strips are crispy, golden brown in color and are cooked well.

Repeat the process until all fish strips are cooked.

Now, air fry chips by repeating the same procedure for about 12 to 15 minutes, shaking and tossing them halfway through to ensure even cooking.

Instructions
